The idea behind the painting started when I woke up one day and saw that my mom had washed and randomly placed two pears and an apple in a plate, and I thought it looked beautiful and wanted to capture that moment forever. The second part of this project consists of produce stickers that I collected for months, and I stuck them on a paper and placed it in a very ornate frame. I believe that the frame is a part of the art piece, and having this very intricate frame against such mundane waste creates a contrast that is almost comical. The idea behind this is that food has become such a commodity, and in a capitalistic world where everything is so expensive, we sometimes feel the need to hold onto expensive things to feel like we got all of our money’s worth. This is a reflection piece. It is meant to make people reflect on their own personal connection to food. Most people consume fruits and vegetables, and we don’t often think about where the food that is easily ready available in grocery stores comes from.
